Balance Ch: 12 (Edited Ending)
Remember, Kai knows nothing of your strength…and make sure to go for his legs, he leaves them more vulnerable than the rest of his body.
Gee, thanks. I think inwardly as I covertly glance over towards Kai…He was a mountain on a man. Nearly as tall, if not as tall as Zack’s 6’4 self. How could my petite 5’3 frame do something like this? Fight him? …Granit, I did duel Zack…but I had help from a certain red-head and I didn’t even win. And to be honest, at the end of the day, it’s not even about winning...while that would be nice too. I just wanted to be treated with respect. To not be degrad
My heart was pounding like a drum in my chest as Genesis’ ice blue eyes met mine. His eyes were sheltered, probably trying to understand what I had just said. Genesis had had a dream…of one of my memories. A memory of a vacation I had gone on with my family nearly two years ago….how was this possible?
Suddenly the auburn soldier does something I least expect. He laughs. A deep laugh that resonates around the room, causing my chest to vibrate in the process. “Somehow, in all its strangeness, that doesn’t surprise me. Not in the least bit.”
I unconsciously wipe my now sweaty palms against my dark pants as I
“Well?” I spit out, hoping I come off pissed…instead of a nervous bundle of nerves. I seriously didn’t like the look he was giving me and something told me playing opossum wouldn’t work with Genesis.
“You oh so gracefully said you had to speak with me…Well, I’m currently all ears.” I go for sarcasm as I place the broken “14 X 20” canvas inside the large trashcan resting against a nearby wall before turning to him again.
Genesis had moved, leaning casually against the steel fridge, two dark glass bottles resting in his hands. He reaches out, offering one, his eyes expectant.
I’m dying…
I pant as I run, skirting around a corner, nearly tripping over an empty beer bottle in my desperate attempt to flee from my pursuer.
Pant.
Pant.
This can’t be happening!
Wind rushes in my ears as I hurdle over a broken crate, startling a tabby cat in the process.
The not so distant sound of clanking metal causes my ears to perk. The stitch in my side is suddenly forgotten as I double my efforts in an attempt to get to safety. I make my way through the condensed brick buildings as my body swerves around another corner.
The sick feeling of dread is like a drop kick to the stomach. A fence stands between me a
“What did you mean by ‘I have no idea’?”
I sigh,” look…Earlier, when I said you wouldn’t understand, I didn’t mean to ‘belittle you’,” I use air quotation,” or to somehow make you feel less intelligent...”
Genesis was now blatantly staring at me as he mimicked my posture, slightly leaning on his elbows. His jacket-less state showing off his biceps…which was slightly unnerving because suddenly my thoughts where parallel to Amber and Lacy’s. I settled my gaze on the clock, needing to look away.
“I simply meant what I said…you wouldn’t
The soft cotton sheets laying haphazardly against my legs was the first thing I could recall as I slowly felt myself become more aware. A pillow pressed against my cheek. A flash of white light streaks across my vision, permeating being my eyelids. I hear the annoying beep of a…heart monitor? Slowly, my heavy lids lift, allowing me to asses my surroundings.
I was once again greeted by the white ceiling and bland walls. The unmistakable rumble of thunder slightly rattles the window, followed by another streak of lightning. I sigh as the soft pitter-patter of rain taps against the glass window.
“Hey there,” a warm hand grasp
Angeal’s POV
I sigh, folding a hand up to rest against my chin as I watch the video footage of Carter yet again for the umpteenth time. The flash of light momentarily blinds the camera before it clears out before revealing the girl laying haphazardly on the empty concrete street. A silhouette of a man appeared as he knelt down to help her, before recoiling away as she looks up to meet his eyes. Her eyes…Her eyes blazed a disconcertingly bright white. Something one would only hope to see in a movie…but here this girl was…
’What are we missing?’
I rewind to the pa
-Two Weeks Earlier-
‘Just keep swimming,
Just keep swimming,
What do we do,
We swim, swim,’
Wahahahaha,
When you waaaaant,
To swim you-‘
I can’t believe it, I’m twenty-one years old, it’s a Saturday night and I’m currently sitting on my butt, sipping on some coffee, attempting to hurdle some math homework, and watching Finding Nemo. Whoever said your twenty’s where the greatest part of your life…Was. An. Idiot.
Truth be told finals were coming up in the next week and I had done what any second year college student would do…procrastinate until the very end. Until you suddenly find
Darkness…
The sound of water dripping and crashing into a puddle below echoed eerily throughout the room.
My throat, dry from thirst and raw from yelling.
There’s a strange musty smell that seems to suffocate the air in the room.
Slowly, I sit up, my back protesting from having slept on the concrete floor. Darkness…I’m surrounded by darkness.
…
“Carter!”
I jerk as if I had suddenly been awoken from sleep. Frantically I glance around, startled to see I’m sitting at a table and no longer in the dark room…huddled in a corner.
I look up, only to see Zack watching me. His expression fill
“What is it?” questions Genesis as he glances at his childhood friend. Angeal sighs as he pockets his phone and then sits opposite the red head.
“Zack.”
Genesis’ eyebrows slightly raise, waiting for him to elaborate”…and?”
The raven haired soldier slightly rubs at his chin as he considers his answer. “I’ve known Zack for many years now…he was rather adamant when he said he hadn’t seen a girl that fit the description of Carter…,” Angeal cuts his eyes to glance at the Commander, “almost too adamant.”
That little tidbit seemed to peak Genesis̵
